Higher Power
Faith in a higher power has many meanings for many people. To some, its trust in a particular divinity or religious teaching. Others come to accept the Families Anonymous meetings and members as there Higher Power. Some rely on the Twelve Steps. The Higher Power of my own understanding, I choose to call God.
When I first joined FA, I expected to learn from people who had been in the program for a while how to cure my addicted child. I prayed daily to God to grant me the strength and power to solve my drug using child's problems. When no improvement took place, I felt God had let me down.
Then it occured to me that I might be asking for help for someone who needed to ask for help for him self. Was this not the answer to my prayer? So then I asked God to help me understand and cope with my sons situation, and things were soon much better between us. I continued to offer encouragement but allowed him to seek his own solutions.
I continue to attend FA meetings, both for self-help and in the hope that in some small way I can help my fellow members or a newcomer in dire need.
TODAY I WILL pray for knowledge of Gods will for me and the power to carry that out.
