Sunday 31st March
Sunday 31st March
It will be impossible to eat at a pub or restaurant today, and the shops have been full of Mother's Day mementos. As with Christmas and other festivities, like Halloween, I do find the commercialisation a bit daunting, but regardless, the most important aspect is celebrating and having a bit of fun. People need these times in their lives. We all have addiction in our families, which is painful, whereas others have other problems. Before this turns into a sermon (!just re-read it!) the thing is... today is a bit difficult if you have an ALO who is your child, or at least it has been for me. I bought my mum, who died in 2015, a total of 56 Mother's Day cards, dating back to the time I was old enough to toddle to the shops. I miss doing that. I have been trying to focus on that statistic and not on my son's absence. Were it not for my mum's having LOVED her cards, I don't think I would have been bothered by Mother's Day. Anyway, enough rambling. Thanks as always to all of you for being my friends and for all the love and wisdom I hear on this forum. Poetry
Re: Sunday 31st March
Hi Poetry,
Your post interested me and got me thinking. I have 2 children and 4 step children. All in their 30's now and some with children of their own.
They used to be good at providing a loving card on Mothers' Day but this year it was my daughter who phoned.
When I was a child it was far less commercialised so there was less guilt attached to forgetting.
Anyway, I decided to celebrate me. I bought a fun coffee mug which says I am the best Mum in the world!
That was nice of me and I enjoy using it.
There is no need for others to voice their appreciation (or otherwise) just so long as I take loving care of me.
Thank you FA, thank goodness I found you back in 2002.

Well done Annabelle! You are so right of course. These occasions (Valentines another) are mere constructs and don't mean as much as fostering a deep tap root of self esteem, regardless of whether others celebrate us or not. P
