I would like to share with all who are having difficulties with your loved one's recovery or indeed your own. My son said to me today 'Mom, recovery is not a factory reset'. Boy did it hit home. They don't stop using and automatically turn into whole, together people with a flick of a switch. It takes time to repair their damaged psyche and their damaged bodies. I get impatient because I think crikey, it has been three years since he has used heroin - why isn't he living a full life yet? And some people take longer than others but for all of them (and us) recovery is a process.
I hope that this helps.
